Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The stats of an item can be improved through upgrading it, also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment boosts the stats linearly.
Players can recycle up to six items at a time in order to gain an indicator of the level of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling items increases depending on their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
An item upgrade in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can boost the stats of your armor and weapons. This can be accomplished by a number of means that include using upgrade components as well as increasing an item's mark level or rarity. The upper-right corner shows the amount of upgrade components required for an item. The cost of upgrading increases with the level and rarity of the item increase. However you can cut down on the cost by purchasing upgrades from a seller or trading them with other players.
Almost all weapons can be upgraded with an upgrade to a prefix like an insignia, or a rune, and many can be upgraded using suffix upgrades. These upgrades add an adjective to the name of the item, such as "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs can be a powerful tool for communicating visual information. They move to grab the attention of the viewer and entice curiosity. The glyphs' animation mimics body language, making them even more effective in conveying a message across linguistic barriers. Glyphs also create a sense of familiarity in the brain, which increases retention of the message.
Each glyph has a range of values that it can enhance a stat, as shown on the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use it to enchant an Artifact. This is the highest value that the glyph can improve a stat by and not the amount it actually increases the stat by. The value of the glyph is contingent on the tier as well as the quality of the item that you are enchanting.
Most upgrade components inserted into items cannot be replaced or salvaged without dismantling the equipment in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If item upgrader have a rune or glyph you don't want to use but it hasn't been applied to the gear yet, you can move the item to another piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. This will create a Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.
You can remove the glyph using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed that it was installed in however, you can salvage the upgraded item by using the glyph and its shards, therefore, it shouldn't be considered a loss.
A glyph added to an item may cause it to be unstable, and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory when you dismantle the item. You can also add an inscription to your equipment to give it a bonus. Deferred Damage, for example can store damage, and then be dealt slowly to the wearer rather than all at one time. This is beneficial for players who take a lot of damage from their enemies however do not want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens are used to change the affixes on weapons and equipment. They can be obtained from various sources, such as mystery boxes, rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses. Reroll tokens give the player a brand new random affix that is usually superior to the original. Reroll tokens are also a good method to reroll the stats of a weapon, which can be upgraded to increase damage or additional perks.
Items that have been rerolled will not appear in the upgrade menu, but they are still eligible to receive upgrades. These rerolled items are able to be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button that alters the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to be selected to recycle. The level gauge is boosted by recycling an item. The amount is by the rarity of the item and its level. Thus, items with higher levels are more valuable for recycling than items with lower levels.
Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to reroll Weapon Traits to upgrade units. Rerolls roll a percentage chance to determine a weapon's trait. If it rolls higher, then the weapon is upgraded. If it is lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
Rerolling is upgrade item to upgrade an item. However, players should be aware that the total ilvl is reduced by the number rerolls it took to get it to the final level. This effect is most noticeable on rings and Diadems, as they have no other options for raising ilvl.
The Reroll system has been criticized by players for being expensive, and it would be more fair to let people pay for it with money or food items that allows them to change their build without wasting time and effort. However paying for rerolls is not something the developers are planning to implement at this time in the game's development. They're planning to include the ability for players to alter their race in the future.
Leveling
There are many ways to boost the value of an upgrade for an item. The first is to increase the amount of upgrade that increases the upgrade value of any stat. The second option is to increase the effect of the upgrade, which can increase the damage or healing of an individual stat. Finally, there is the ability to upgrade the base item to a higher upgrade type. If you're fortunate the upgraded item could get to the top of its upgrade track and unlock an additional benefit. This will provide the item with a significant upgrade value. The bonus effect changes with each upgrade level. In general, the upgrade effect is increased by +3.
The iLevel will also change depending on the item's upgrade path and base level. For instance an item upgraded from being a scarce or exclusive item to an extraordinary one will have the chance to gain the Enhanced Defense of the new base item.
